Let's talk about gas station coffee

Main Post:

Howdy y'all, I travel for work 4/7 days in the week which leads me to a lot of gas stations. While I usually make an aeropress in the morning in the hotel room, sometimes I settle for that sweet brown water that gas stations provide. As many of you might notice, more and more places have coffee machines that make an individual cup and grind their own beans. Unfortunately these are just fancy Keurig style machines. I also noticed that the reservoir that holds the beans has no UV filter. I'm sure the coffee is stale and has lost its freshness but I guess this leads to my question. What gas station has the best coffee?

Black coffee? None. Now if cold brew or machine cappuccinos are you jam then you may have some options. Keep an eye out for Stok cold brew dispensers they are actually pretty good considering all things. Pretty much all cappuccino machines are the same they all get their product from the same place.

GE Cafe Gas Range Knob Modification To Minimize Accidental Turning

Main Post:

I am a homeowner and have my father living with me. Our kitchen is laid out so that the gas range is next to the door leading to the laundry room and garage, so it's in a high traffic pathway. The range is a GE Cafe Gas Range and the knobs (big and chunky) stick out of the front making them EXTREMELY easy to brush up against and turning them past the pilot igniter to the gas flow settings. My dad brushes up against it all the time when walking by. He leans against it and doesn't realize the knobs have shifted. He is hard of hearing and would not easily notice the TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK sound if the knob stayed on the pilot igniter. I need to find a way of preventing this.

I have seen a number of devices that, for me would be just fine, but for my dad would be a huge hassle. He seems to take the path of least annoyance and most convenience. If an extra step is involved in something he wants no part, and is stubborn about it.

This device looks like the PERFECT solution: https://www.rangesafe.com . Sadly this is a company developing this product and looking for funding, so I can't find it offered anywhere for sale.

MY IDEA: I wonder if this might work for me, and I'd like to ask for some opinions/input on this from more experienced DIYers here. Would I lessen the possibility of accidentally pushing the knob in and turning it to gas if I put some sort of felt washer/spacer behind the knob that would make it necessary to push the knob in a little bit harder before it is able to turn to the gas settings? That part of the range surface gets warm, but not overly hot, so I wonder if a fire retardant dense material could be used.

I'd greatly appreciate some guidance and experienced feedback.

Top Comment: Contact GE to see if any other knobs are compatible with your model. There may be low-profile knobs that you can swap out. If the knob must be pushed in before it can turn, make something like a hotel door sign (or several stacked) that slips over and behind the knob so that the knob can't be pushed without removing the tag. Sounds like you father might hate the 2nd idea, but does he accidentally brush against all of the knobs? Seems like you could use a blocking device on the 2 or 3 closest to the foot traffic, and leave the far one open for your father to use.

Looking for any recommendations and even for places to get optimal deals online or in store in Ontario

Top Comment: Linking to the actual models might help... I got a great deal on my range (induction) from Lowe's, we waited about 2 months for a deal to pop up. I was looking at Leon's, Home Depot, Best Buy, canadianappliance.ca weekly and nobody had better pricing.
